Fouriesburg is only 10km from the Caledonspoort Border Post. It forms the gateway to lesotho. When visiting the Eastern Free State, one cannot miss a trip into Lesotho.

The development of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project has been very beneficial to Lesotho.
It has provided infra structure, such as tarred roads, that made Lesotho more accessible to the people.

The project was planned in different phases. Katse dam was built in Lesotho. This damwal is 185m high and is the highest in Africa. There are 85km of tunnel underneath the mountain. The water comes out at the Ash river near Clarens. From here the water flows via the Wilge- & Vaal rivers to the Vaaldam. In the process Hydro-electric power is generated for Lesotho.
